Weekend Hair
So I took down my twists over the weekend, detangled with Tresemme Naturals Conditioner, and co-washed with and Suave Almonds and Shea Butter. Although I love my mini twists, it felt good to have my hair out, big, huge, and free! I went to a cookout on Saturday and wore my hair in a side bun with a flower. Today at church I wore a regular bun. I'll be busy this evening and won't be doing twists today but probably re-do them later in the week. I have been thinking of perfecting my rollersets though because it's another great low manipulation style and I love how soft my hair feels when I do them. We shall see what I decide to do this week, so for now it'll probably be bunning until then.

Post Partpardum Shedding
Good morning lovely ladies! So the last time I took down my mini twists, I noticed I had alot of post partpartum shedding. I never noticed this before with my other two, or maybe I just overlooked it because I wasn't in to hair care back then. We typically shed 50-100 hairs per day, so if you think about the hair that's not combed for the two weeks I'm in twists, that's could be about 1400 shed hairs!
But I still think I had more due to post-partpartum shedding than regular shedding. It ususally occurs about 2-3 months after giving birth, and my little one is 3 months old, so that would make sense. I noticed I had more around my edges, so I've been applying castor oil to thicken up my edges. I really need to start applying it a couple times a day and massage in that area.
I am curious to see if the shedding has returned to normal once I take my twists down. Garlic is said to be great to get shedding under control. There are garlic shampoos and conditioners that I could use if it gets too bad. I'll keep you ladies posted!

Co-Washed Mini Twists
Had a great kickboxing workout tonight. I came home and co-washed my hair in the shower and my scalp feels so clean. I used Tresemme' Naturals conditioner to co-wash my hair. I took a few pics so you ladies could see what it looks like after the twists get wet. I'll come back and upload them later.
Co-Washing Today
Good morning ladies! So I've had my mini twist in for about a week and a half. I usually wash my hair once a week or every week and a half, so it's definitely time...my scalp is saying "Wash Me!". I may just co-wash because I plan on taking them down on Thursday or Friday. Then I'll actually wash, and DC. I'll probably wear a bun over the weekend and may re-twist on Sunday. I plan on straightening my hair over Mother's Day weekend so I'll keep my next set of twists in until then.

A New Way To Do Mini Twists
I did mini twists for the first time back in December 2011. Since then this has been one of my favorite
go to styles. I absolutely love them! I have a pretty cool way of doing them
that kind of give the appearance of a wash n go without having to wet my hair
daily!
It takes me about 3 hours to them and I keep them in for about 2 weeks at a time. I figure that’s well worth the time spent doing them. I detangle in four sections and shampoo my hair in the shower, then deep condition. Sometimes I’ll DC and detangle first then shampoo. I use a T-shirt to dry my hair as it’s less harsh than using a towel that your hair could possibly get snagged on.
I don’t bother parting my hair with each twist until I get toward the top where the parts can be seen. When I watched KinkyCurlyQueen’s YouTube vid she mentioned to part your hair at an angle at the top so your twists aren’t scalpy. This was great advice because when I do it this way, it’s not scalpy at all.

I usually leave a little conditioner in my hair as a leave
in, and have my hair in four big twists. My hair dries pretty fast so I have conditioner/water
mix in a spray bottle in case I need to spray it while I’m twisting. My hair is
damp and I start twisting from the back. The only product I used was African
Shea Butter to twist.
What makes my twists unique are that I don’t twist all the
way to the ends. I only twist about half way down, and then continue to smooth
the Shea butter down the ends and sometimes quickly twirling my hair around my
fingers as I’m sliding down my hair. I don’t bother parting my hair with each twist until I get toward the top where the parts can be seen. So yes ya’ll I’m loving my mini twists! I’ve been doing
these so much this year. After taking them down I’ll detangle, wash, DC and
rock a bun or wash and go throughout the week. Then I hop right back into my
twists. They are so easy and convenient. I don’t have to worry about applying
lots of products and get to wear my hair “out” or “down” without having to
re-wet it, re-style it, or worry about it getting frizzy. I moisturize/spray my
twists every few days, and sometimes seal, and I’m good to go. I make sure to
sleep with my satin bonnet nightly too.
So Excited!
Hi Ladies! I just want to say I am so excited that I have created my hair blog! This is something I've been considering doing since last year and so glad that I’ve acted on it! I have been on my healthy hair journey for close to three years now, and have learned so much and would love to share it with you all, as others have helped me tremendously along the way. We are all on this hair journey together regardless of whether you are just starting out, or have been on your HHJ for years.
I believe your hair journey is continuous because even when you reach your goal length, you still have to maintain your regimen, as to not undo all the hair work you’ve done. Sure you can "breathe” a little, and once you reach your hair goal, you may not feel the need to be as "by the book" as you were before. However, you still need to be consistent with taking care of your hair so that it will continue to thrive and flourish.
