It takes me about 3 hours to them and I keep them in for about 2 weeks at a time. I figure that’s well worth the time spent doing them. I detangle in four sections and shampoo my hair in the shower, then deep condition. Sometimes I’ll DC and detangle first then shampoo. I use a T-shirt to dry my hair as it’s less harsh than using a towel that your hair could possibly get snagged on.
I usually leave a little conditioner in my hair as a leave
in, and have my hair in four big twists. My hair dries pretty fast so I have conditioner/water
mix in a spray bottle in case I need to spray it while I’m twisting. My hair is
damp and I start twisting from the back. The only product I used was African
Shea Butter to twist.
What makes my twists unique are that I don’t twist all the
way to the ends. I only twist about half way down, and then continue to smooth
the Shea butter down the ends and sometimes quickly twirling my hair around my
fingers as I’m sliding down my hair. I don’t bother parting my hair with each twist until I get toward the top where the parts can be seen. When I watched KinkyCurlyQueen’s YouTube vid she mentioned to part your hair at an angle at the top so your twists aren’t scalpy. This was great advice because when I do it this way, it’s not scalpy at all.
So yes ya’ll I’m loving my mini twists! I’ve been doing
these so much this year. After taking them down I’ll detangle, wash, DC and
rock a bun or wash and go throughout the week. Then I hop right back into my
twists. They are so easy and convenient. I don’t have to worry about applying
lots of products and get to wear my hair “out” or “down” without having to
re-wet it, re-style it, or worry about it getting frizzy. I moisturize/spray my
twists every few days, and sometimes seal, and I’m good to go. I make sure to
sleep with my satin bonnet nightly too.
