What Natural Hair Means to Me

When I decided to go natural I didn’t do it because it was popular or to follow the natural movement or anything. I primarily did it out of curiosity after being relaxed for so long. I transitioned because I felt that it was best for me to embrace my God given natural hair that had been hidden under relaxers most of my life. This was something I never even considered or understood until I began my HHJ. I began to wonder what was my purpose in getting relaxers when I would still use heat on the regular to straighten it. I discovered I could still get beautiful results if I desired straight hair, but without the chemical and without it being permanent.
I know there have been debates as to what is considered natural. Some women believe that you are only natural if you don’t use color, don’t use heat to straighten your hair, etc. I say do what you feel is best for your hair, style, personality, and ultimately what makes you happy!! So for me, my natural hair is a part of who I am. I am proud to be natural, and love playing around with different styles. It’s so fun to see all the things our wonderful hair can do!
